Thermal Buckling Transition of Crystalline Membranes in a Field

چکیده
Two dimensional crystalline membranes in isotropic embedding space exhibit a flat phase with anomalous elasticity, relevant e.g., for graphene. Here we study their thermal fluctuations the absence of exact rotational invariance space. An example is provided by membrane an orientational field, tuned to critical buckling point application in-plane stresses. Through detailed analysis, show that transition new universality class. The self-consistent screening method predicts second order transition, modified elasticity exponents at criticality, while RG suggests weakly first transition.

Thermal fluctuations of crystalline membranes and ripple formation in graphene
Crystalline membranes are two-dimensional membranes whose constituent particles form a crystalline mesh. A good example is free standing graphene where carbon atoms form a membrane with a hexagonal lattice structure. What distinguishes crystalline membranes from conventional two-dimensional crystals is the embedding in a three dimensional space which allows for fluctuations not only within the ...

In a nematic gel we observe a low-energy buckling deformation arising from soft and semisoft elastic modes. We prepare the self-assembled gel by dissolving a coil-side-group liquid-crystalline polymer-coil copolymer in a nematic liquid crystal. The gel has long network strands and a precisely tailored structure, making it ideal for studying nematic rubber elasticity. Under polarized optical mic...
متن کاملDomain-induced budding in buckling membranes.
We present a phase field model on buckling membranes to analyze phase separation and budding on soft membranes. By numerically integrating dynamic equations, it turns out that the formation of caps is greatly influenced by the presence of a little excess area due to the surface area constraint. When cap-shaped domains are created, domain coalescence is mainly observed not between domains with s...
متن کاملThermal Buckling of Functionally Graded Beams
In this article, thermal stability of beams made of functionally graded material (FGM) is considered. The derivations of equations are based on the one-dimensional theory of elasticity. The material properties vary continuously through the thickness direction. Tanigawa's model for the variation of Poisson's ratio, the modulus of shear stress, and the coefcient of thermal expansion is considered...
